Concerns about confidentiality can be a barrier to colorectal cancer screening by African Americans, according to a new study from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. Researchers surveyed 1,021 African Americans aged 50-75 from around the United States to assess their attitudes toward colorectal cancer screening (CRCS). They found a reluctance to discuss private matters such as family history, health behaviors, and sensitivities related to screening preferences that could inhibit discussion and information sharing between patient and physician.
