Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the Ryanodine receptor 3 (RYR3) gene that encodes a calcium channel are associated with common carotid intima media thickness (cIMT), a valid and reliable subclinical measure of atherosclerosis in HIV-infected individuals. Dr. Sadeep Shrestha, associate professor, and Ms. Aditi D. Shendre, doctoral candidate, in the department of epidemiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, evaluated SNPs in the RYR3 gene among HIV-infected women participating in Women's Interagency HIV Study (WIHS).
